Welcome to the new and improved site. I know it still looks the same and some of you might not even have noticed a difference but that’s because I wasn’t interested in a complete revamp. The blog has become very recognizable with the bright magenta on top and black background, changing it would be like Coca-Cola suddenly going blue. What I did with this redesign is improve on the old design and fix things that needed to be fixed.

Firstly the biggest change is that the site now looks exactly the same on any browser on any OS. Previously it looked slightly different depending on what browser on what OS you were using. The only difference now is for some reason on FireFox on a Mac the titles on the tabs under the header are in bold. But that’s it everything else looks the same. I’ve widened the site but not by a lot so that if you’re viewing the blog from a netbook you don’t need to scroll left or right to see the whole width of the page. It fits perfectly.

Secondly the ads. The most important change is that there is no longer an ad on top of the posts. I’ve decided not to put an ad there and have instead kept all the ads on the far right. This way I’ve created a clear and distinct line between what is an ad and what isn’t. Everything on the left is me, it’s my space and I say what I want. Everything on the right is paid for. I’ve changed the shape of the ads and made them slightly smaller so they look a lot neater now. I’ve also had all the advertisers reduce the physical size of the ads by half so that the site loads even faster now then it previously did.

I’ve also changed the color of the header slightly and made it a 100% magenta which is slightly brighter than the previous header. I then changed all the other magenta on the blog to match, so all the links and buttons etc.. are now slightly brighter. Oh and when you hover over the tabs under the header, the button now turns white instead of black. Looks cleaner this way.

I’ve really done a ton of minor changes here and there. For example the titles of the posts are now 100% black instead of dark gray, the comments under the posts look A LOT neater now and I’ve also removed the number next to peoples comments. There was a bad habit previously in which people replied to each other by post number. For example “I have to agree with post 23, Britney Spears is hot”. Now people will have to refer to each other by name or nickname. Another issue with the comment numbers was that if there was a comment in moderation before post 23 and I approved it after someone responded to post 23 then post 23 would suddenly become post 24 and the person who commented in reply to post 23 would look stupid.

Oh another important change, I’ve removed the tab on top called “Archive” which used to contain all my post categories and have instead listed all my categories on the side. Those of you who’ve been visiting my blog for a few years now will realize that’s how it used to be before my previous redesign. I find it a lot more useful having it in the sidebar and I am hoping it will encourage more people to dig into my blog and engage with my older posts. I’ve posted soo many things over the years and a lot of them are still interesting to this day so its worth making them available. I’ve also shifted the “Site Tools” up because I feel my twitter and facebook group are worth visiting and so need to be highlighted more. I’ve moved the other bloggers list to the bottom of the side bar so that way the more interesting blogs I find the more I will be able to fit. The side bar used to also have a gray background which I removed, makes things a lot more airy and less suffocating.

So in conclusion, the blog loads faster, looks neater and is just an improved version of the previous design.

In review of this year I went back to the initial memories and walk my way up to this dayComing up with a final verdict wasn’t obvious or straight forward, and so I won’t be irrational and unjustly I used a simple well known method of accounting called balance sheet, so from the day I’ve started this year till this moment, I’d count out, my assets, liabilities and equity, little by little a face

Here I am in the last 2 hours of 2009 well it’s now less than 2 hours but let’s say for argument’s sake that it is 2 hours, so here I am thinking back to this year.  This year in comparison to last year was so much better yet in different aspects was a bit worse.  Well in a way I can say that this year was a neutrally bad year for me because again I did not see any of my wishes come true.  Nothing that great happened but there were some ups in this year so let’s highlight some:

Ups

1. The year started with an ode to chocolate, well if you didn’t understand what I meant, it meant that the first day of the year I went to Chocolate Bar with my sisters and their friends and had amazing chocolate and what better way is it to start a year than with chocolate.  The previous year I had started it off by crying and hating myself.  So this beginning was so much better.
2. I am in the process of getting a promotion that I did not want and continuing in a career that I do not care about at all.  This point can be both good and bad but I think I’ll label it good because I am in the process of getting a promotion.  Next year it’s supposed to become official.
3. I travelled to the US and instead of visiting 1 State this year I got the chance to visit 2 (Omaha, Nebraska and New York, New York!) And of the two I fell in love with New Yooooooooooooooork! Concrete streets where dreams are made of……. la la la :P But no seriously I got a chance to check out the Apple Store on 5th Avenue and fall so madly and deeply in love! It was an expensive trip, one where I had no urge to shop for myself and was a bit tired in but in the end it was awesome walking down the streets of downtown New York and enjoying the scenary.
4. I welcomed a new baby girl cousin in late September (Sept 28) baby Lulu and she is the most adorable little thing.  She’s my new favorite thing of the year! And my new spoiled cousin.  I spoil my cousins silly, hell where have you heard that a 4 year old gets an ipod touch for his birthday! Seriously where? But I love them so much so it’s not the sacrifice that matters to me
5. Most of my friends got what they wished for and others are still on the waiting list, to me that waiting list makes me feel as if we’re at a handbag shop and waiting to get our paws on one of those limited edition bags such as the Hermes bag (wait is it that or something else I am getting old seriously)
6. I bought my iMac 27″ Quadcore bad boy and fell in love with Apple even more!  And spoiled myself silly on my birthday!

Downs:

1. I experienced a manager change where the place I was at became sucky and therefore was moved to a new place where I was tricked into believing that it was a good place in the end.  Same shit different location.
2. I tried moving out of retail but was unsuccessful (read point #2 in Ups)
3. I experienced a couple of depressing months where I just was not able to stand anything at work or any other place.
4. Lost touch for the most part of the year with friends and family and when I do get a chance to hang out it’s a bit tense for me.
5. My dreams and wishes did not come true and the year is ending and they are still not even close :(
6. I turned 26 and started to lose my memory and what little I had of common sense.

And I believe that’s it for now, ever since I turned older I started to forget more, I started to feel tired more and well it’s just going downhill after being 25.  I hope that 2010 brings me better aspects of my life.  I wish and hope to quit my current job and join another one.  One where I am better appreciated and not mistreated.  I hope that I do get married sometime next year and that I end up with my own little kid sometime later because well I love 2 and 3 year olds :P I want to have a 2 year old and return the child back when it becomes 6 years old because then they become a little too annoying :P I wish to be more in touch with my friends and family and make more ME time for myself.  I really wish I have a better year and wish that you guys have a better one too.

So good bye 2009 it was not great knowing you let’s hope 2010 doesn’t really give us that finger and screw us over.  2010 I want you to be a good year please!

It’s always frustrating for me when trying to find an image to use, and I have to keep searching forever to find a license-free photo. I usually go to Wikipedia and see what they have, and I know of some search engines specific for that purpose, but none seems to compare with Sprixi. What Sprixi does is it searches Flickr and OpenClipArt.org for publicly available pictures, and there is quite great amount of quantity in there.

New searches will initially return unsorted results. Based on your usage and mine, Sprixi will learn and enhance it’s sorting. But the really good thing about it is how it clarifies the usage right of each image for you, and tells you the terms of use, which usually involves giving back some credit. So often do I find photo and keep investigating what rights does it hold. Not here.

The fun part is where the name comes from, which they say is a combination of “picture” and “wiki”. Where the S & X came from remains a mystery even to them I guess :), but I like it as  they do.

“The inspiration for the name “Sprixi” came from the words “picture” and “wiki”. We can’t remember how it evolved from there but it had a lot to do with what domain names were available! We think Sprixi sounds fun and a little magical :)”

One of the most popular cartoon shows to hit the market has been Ben10, with posters, toys, franchises coming up all over the place. The Storyline is rather impressive, with the mix of humor, action and .. aliens!..

What surprised me is the business logic used in this cartoon series is more the concept used in “LOST Series” where the storyline flashes between the past and future, thus making it absorbing to watch, something which i considered difficult in “Lost” .  For me its a stress buster, something to watch when Hell breaks loose at work

im yet to see the movie Ben10 Alien Swarm, so will update you guys when i get a chance.

We’ve all gotten emails from people offering us money either because their uncle who owns a diamond mine passed away or maybe they inherited the money from their father who was king of Samboliadoodoo before he got killed in a coup d’état. Well what if one of these emails turned out to be true? Mother, an ad agency in London sent out an email to hundreds of people telling them they would give them $10,000 risk free money and all they had to do was reply back with their full name and bank account details. Well one guy did reply, and guess what happened? Watch the video. [YouTube]

In an era , where Spams / Viruses / Trojans have become a part and parcel of life. The guys who are mostly hit are Mail Administrators..

Definition
Mail Administrators = IT Guys who take care mail servers like exchange, exim, lotus, imail and many others. Their sole job is to ensure you receive and send email to your clients, friends, families and also sometimes allow you to spam people with countless of forwards and other junk you like to tell people about.

When spams and viruses come and attack you. Mail Admins come up with their own forces of Defense. They end up putting firewalls, Mail filtering, RBL blocking an so on.. Gone are the days, where you can send an email in peace and you can ensure the receiver got it. Now its like …

- you send the email, then
- you call the person over the phone or sms… “Did you get my email”

- The other person would say… Yes…(then great) or NO
- If No…you would say.. maybe its on its way…(15 mins back)… if you dont get it please call me back

So.. if you notice, apart from the Email .. an SMS or a phone is needed a verbal confirmation whether the mail is come or not!!!.  The point of “Insecurity , that emails have not reached the other end, is becoming very popular now”. The Biggest cause of these is 3 things

1. Spams and Viruses
2. Mail Admins who have too strong defense setups
3. the user him/herself.

The Purpose of this article to tell everyone, whats happening there and how everyone can make email delivery more efficient.

1.  Dont wait last min to send the email, you have a 10 am deadline for a report…  you attempt to send the email at 9.55am. How sure are you that the recipient would get that email ? Email deliveries are theoretically  immediate, but with various filters,firewalls etc.. there is no longer that guarantee. Ensure you send your email atleast 30 mins in advance of deadlines.

2. BCC, and external email , if you have a gmail,hotmail etc.. Then BCC important emails to your address, so that you can check it as a guarantee that your emails have gone out.

3. PLEASE FOR GOD SAKE… dont forward attachments, look at this scenario.

Jerry works for a company of 100 employees. So we have 100 email accounts in this Company. The Company is a proud owner of 2 MB internet line, which is satisfactory for a company of that size. Jerry gets an interesting video of 4 MB from a friend outside his company. Jerry loves the video so much, that he decides to forward to his colleagues, he adds about 50 of his closet colleagues. and shoots out the email.

Next thing we know.. the network is hung up and we have extremely slow net. ………….why?

Jerry has sent his 4 MB email out (which is fine).. but now we have 50 people downloading this same email back into the company network.. now 50 X 4 MB = 200 MB!, 200 mb at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, So here we have important emails SLOW..queued etc etc!!!!!!!

4. Companies, just because you got that attractive domain name like,  email@yourcompany.com , Please dont go sending 1000’s of newsletters. Customers can block you or consider you as spammers if you force their inboxes with your promotions.. Once you get into Spam RBLs, its way tough to get you out of it!

5. Have a proper hosting support, Just becoz google , yahoo etc is giving you 20 to 30 GBs of webspace.. doesnt mean they will provide you immediate support in times of problems. Get a local hosting company, who can support you when you have mail problems. Reason being is that when mails dont go, the Mail admin cannot diagnoise something which is not in his control.

6.  PLEASE// buy an antivirus or tell your company to buy one… Living on Pirated antivirus scanners is one of the main causes of spams to originate from your computers and the company networks. this causes your IP addresses to be blacklists, so no matter how much clean mails you send.. all your mails will be considered as spams. This is worse in companies.. for example

a company has 100 users, but they all go out to the internet over 1 IP address through their router.. So the world sees the company as IP 62.123.12.12 , imagine user A in that company is infected and is sending out spams. Online spam blocks will see that IP 62.123.12.12 is sending out spams, and blocks it. Then User B who is a clean PC, is sending out genuine mails, the spam blocker will see .. oh its IP 62.123.12.12 again!… and will consider these as spam and block them as well. So please have updated and genuine Anti-virus or tell your IT guys to do so.

7. Avoid Notifications from Facebook, orkut, etc coming to your email. My Last Months Email Traffic stats was

41,250,012 – Emails Spam ( Blocked )
1,010,011 – Emails  Notifications (Orkut, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter,etc) (Blocked)
219,181 – Forwards & Groups Emails(Not blocked) Total Size of emails  14.6 GB
72,199 – Autoresponders(Out on holidays,Thankyou, Autoresponders, Newsletters)(Not blocked)
21,818 – Genuine Emails(Not blocked)

As a mail admin myself, i dont understand why does everyone need Facebook etc notifications.. ? All it says.. that someone said something to you, click here to view.. doesnt that distract you from WORK? if you see the stats.. for Notifications its like 1,010,011 thats a lot.. on my servers i have blocked this.. but i dont know how many other servers its on.

Imagine, Facebook sending you postal mail, everytime it needs to notify you.. how much paper is that?

8.  CCing, the whole world! .. Many people have this habit.. of CC’ing everyone in the company.. anything they do or need to inform, Imagine the amount of emails which are spread around.. this is not only increasing the queue, but also spaming people who are not involved in the task or dont want to be involved.. its so annoying…!!

This is technical discussion made layman is a bit tiring.. so i will continue on part -2 later on… so till then .. be safe!

4. Companies, just because you got that attractive domain name like,  email@yourcompany.com , Please dont go sending 1000’s of newsletters. Customers can block you or consider you as spammers if you force their inboxes with your promotions.. Once you get into Spam RBLs, its way tough to get you out of it!

5. Have a proper hosting support, Just becoz google , yahoo etc is giving you 20 to 30 GBs of webspace.. doesnt mean they will provide you immediate support in times of problems. Get a local hosting company, who can support you when you have mail problems. Reason being is that when mails dont go, the Mail admin cannot diagnoise something which is not in his control.

6.  PLEASE// buy an antivirus or tell your company to buy one… Living on Pirated antivirus scanners is one of the main causes of spams to originate from your computers and the company networks. this causes your IP addresses to be blacklists, so no matter how much clean mails you send.. all your mails will be considered as spams. This is worse in companies.. for example

a company has 100 users, but they all go out to the internet over 1 IP address through their router.. So the world sees the company as IP 62.123.12.12 , imagine user A in that company is infected and is sending out spams. Online spam blocks will see that IP 62.123.12.12 is sending out spams, and blocks it. Then User B who is a clean PC, is sending out genuine mails, the spam blocker will see .. oh its IP 62.123.12.12 again!… and will consider these as spam and block them as well. So please have updated and genuine Anti-virus or tell your IT guys to do so.

7. Avoid Notifications from Facebook, orkut, etc coming to your email. My Last Months Email Traffic stats was

41,250,012 – Emails Spam ( Blocked )
1,010,011 – Emails  Notifications (Orkut, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter,etc) (Blocked)
219,181 – Forwards & Groups Emails(Not blocked) Total Size of emails  14.6 GB
72,199 – Autoresponders(Out on holidays,Thankyou, Autoresponders, Newsletters)(Not blocked)
21,818 – Genuine Emails(Not blocked)

As a mail admin myself, i dont understand why does everyone need Facebook etc notifications.. ? All it says.. that someone said something to you, click here to view.. doesnt that distract you from WORK? if you see the stats.. for Notifications its like 1,010,011 thats a lot.. on my servers i have blocked this.. but i dont know how many other servers its on.

Imagine, Facebook sending you postal mail, everytime it needs to notify you.. how much paper is that?

8.  CCing, the whole world! .. Many people have this habit.. of CC’ing everyone in the company.. anything they do or need to inform, Imagine the amount of emails which are spread around.. this is not only increasing the queue, but also spaming people who are not involved in the task or dont want to be involved.. its so annoying…!!

I’m not into politics at all but i recently read this article from Aljarida news paper and got upset when reading that Rola Dashti is working against the law and working against the employees..
They are Human beings not slaves nor machines, they deserve the time off same as u enjoy your long vacations.. and as i recall it was their votes that put you where you are now

ويصوت المجلس على عدد من التعديلات المقدمة من قبل رئيسة لجنة الشؤون الصحية والاجتماعية البرلمانية النائبة رولا دشتي، والتي دعت في معظمها إلى تقليص الإجازات المستحقة للعامل التي أقرها القانون في مداولته الأولى، والتي حظيت بموافقة اللجنة، وتبدأ من المادة 68 التي حددت الإجازات الرسمية المقررة للعامل بأجر كامل، وبالرغم من أن القانون قد حدد في مداولته الأولى ثلاثة أيام إجازة لعيد الفطر مدفوعة الأجر، ومثلها لعيد الأضحى، فإنها اقترحت تقليص هاتين الإجازتين إلى يومين بدلاً من ثلاث.

كما سيتم التصويت على التعديل الآخر المقدم من قبلها على المادة 69، التي اقترحت خلاله جعل الإجازة المرضية خلال السنة عن أول عشرة أيام بأجر كامل بدلاً من خمسة عشر يوماً، كما نص عليها الاقتراح في مداولته الأولى.

ومن بين التعديلات التي سيتم التصويت عليها الخاصة بالإجازات التعديل على المادة 70 المقدمة من قبل رئيسة لجنة الشؤون الصحية والاجتماعية والعمل البرلمانية، الذي يقلص فترة الإجازة السنوية المدفوعة الأجر للعامل في القطاع الخاص من ثلاثين يوماً، كما أقرها المجلس في مداولته الأولى إلى خمسة عشر يوماً، إذ ينص التعديل المقدم من دشتي على أن ‘للعامل الحق في إجازة سنوية مدفوعة الأجر مدتها خمسة عشر يوماً عن السنة الأولى لا تستحق إلا بعد قضائه تسعة أشهر على الأقل في خدمة صاحب العمل، وواحد وعشرون يوماً لمن أمضى في الخدمة مدة لا تقل عن سنتين ولا تجاوز 5 سنوات، ومدة شهر لمن جاوزت خدمته خمس سنوات’.

المادة (76)

كما سيتم التصويت أيضاً على التعديل المقدم على نص المادة 76 من قبل رولا دشتي، والتي اقترحت فيه أن يكون للعامل الذي أمضى ثلاث سنوات متصلة في خدمة صاحب العمل الحق في إجازة مدفوعة الأجر مدتها خمسة عشر يوماً لأداء فريضة الحج، شريطة ألا يكون قد أدى الفريضة قبل، في حين أنها كانت تنص هذه المادة في المداولة الأولى على من أمضت سنتين متصلتين فقط وليس ثلاث سنوات، كما أقرت اللجنة الصحية تعديل دشتي على نص المادة 77 والذي سيتم التصويت عليه أيضاً، والتي قلصت فيه إجازة العامل في حالة الوفاة إلى ثلاثة أيام بحد أقصى، في حين أن المادة في المداولة الأولى لم تشر إلى ‘حد أقصى’، كما اقترحت أيضاً في هذه المادة جعل إجازة المرأة العاملة المسلمة التي يُتوفى زوجها مدة واحد وعشرين يوماً، بعد أن كانت أربعة أشهر، إذ ينص اقتراحها على ما يلي: ‘للعامل في حالة وفاة أحد أقاربه من الأولى والثانية، الحق في إجازة بأجر كامل بحد أقصى ثلاثة أيام وفقاً لما يقرره صاحب العمل، على ألا تخصم من إجازته الرسمية. وللمرأة العاملة المسلمة التي تُوفِي زوجها الحق في إجازة عدة بأجر كامل مدة 21 يوماً من تاريخ الوفاة، ولها الحق في إجازة دون أجر مدة لا تتجاوز أربعة أشهر من تاريح انتهاء الاجازة المذكورة شريطة موافقة صاحب العمل، وفي حال عدم موافقة صاحب العمل عليها يلتزم الأخير بتنظيم دوام المرأة المسلمة التي يتوفى زوجها، بحيث تكون ساعات عملها بين الثامنة صباحاً والخامسة عصراً، وذلك مع عدم الإخلال بأحكام المادة 64 من هذا القانون.
