Fernanda and her husband
My friend, Nanda, passed away yesterday of cancer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in Kuwait and thought she had it beat at one point, until the discovery that it had spread to her brain. She was a lovely lovely person, full of life and energy. She was one of the few people I know who never had a bad word about anyone; was always found (and brought out) the good

Nail It is one place I keep going back to for my nail treatments… ever since the owner invited me over to try their services back in April, I got hooked on! Their facebook group is updated on daily basis with up-to-date news about the salon or random fashion clips along with services that keeps on changing and special promotion! The owner herself, Shaikha, is an awesome person! She takes every single matter I tell her about into consideration and follow up on it personally which adds to the whole customer experience we lack here in the region!

One of the services I read about on the group is the “Gelish” – Shaikha was there and she explained it to me. Its a nail service that creates some sort of adhesive bond between your nail and some gel products they have in the salon – and it wont damage that actual nail plate. Every coat applied is treated under UV light for less than a minute

My nail technician was Glenda and she was patient and very precise with me… she listened to me really well, as I LOVE French manicure and wanted the white tip to be thin and whats not, so she did it the way I like it

Its fast (instant) dry and looks really cool – I <3 – and its supposed to stay put for like two weeks… lets see how that one goes now

Nail It located in Plaza Hawalli and their tel# is 22658869

After reading
Ansam’s post and her recommendations on
Bassam Fattouh’s new make-up line, I decided to check it out up close and personal, at first I was slightly disappointed because there wasn’t a huge selection. BUT, when I tried on several things, the disappointment was quickly replaced with fondness. Like
Ansam, I got the
Rouge Q8 lipstick and I guess that’s the patriotic side of me too! And I also got the Haifa lipstick, it has a nice texture and color. And I also got the jet-black eye Kohl and this was my favorite. Very intense color. The eye concealer was nice but too heavy for my taste. I do recommend that you go to
Rawdha Co-op to check the new make-up line out if you have the time and need to refresh your beauty routine with a new make-up.

Got this bag from Jareer yesterday, its still one of the most beloved places to my heart, going to Jareer bookstore is always a joy. I started to gather old and new sketch books and will add a few more still stored somewhere in my room, for the heck of organizing & easing the move to the new rooms I’m thinking of taking.

Sketchbook STUDIO moved its base to an incredible space in Kingly Court, Carnaby for a specific period of time where they created a hub for 25 artists and holding a record number of photoshoots all whilst compiling their third issue.
This new hub of creativity was split over three floors, dedicating one of the 3 floors to a studio space for 25 new and established artists working on their individual projects or collaborations. A huge range of work was included such as illustration, painting, sculpture, photography and film, there were no boundaries and the space is completely open to the artists’ ideas.
Another floor was dedicated to live fashion shoots. The space was given to photographers and stylists from various publications shooting editorial spreads as well as designers looking to photograph their look-books and promotional shoots. Each day was dedicated to a new event creating a record number of consecutive fashion events outside of fashion week.

Every night as part of my diet I am allowed to only eat grilled food and veggies. After the gym the most convenient thing for me to pick up is grills from either Turkish Grill, Kebabji or Villa Fayrouz Express. I usually call them from the gym parking lot and by the time I get to them the food is ready for me to pick up. Recently Kebabji increased their prices which annoyed me since their main competitors offered more for less. I decided to put up this post in hopes of someone from Kebabji reads this and realizes they need to go back to their old pricing.
Below are the three restaurants with some figures I took so I could compare them. The weight of the meat was calculated by placing just the meat on a digital scale and not the whole box. I ordered the exact same dishes from the three restaurants, grilled tikka meat and a side of tabbouleh.
Turkish Grill
Grilled Meat Tikka Cost: KD2.000
Pieces of meat: 15
Weight of meat: 175grams
Tabbouleh Cost: 600fils
Weight of tabbouleh: 272grams
Telephone: 25752565
Villa Fayrouz Express
Grilled Meat Tikka Cost: KD1.950
Pieces of meat: 19
Weight of meat: 196grams
Tabbouleh Cost: 850fils
Weight of tabbouleh: 508grams
Telephone: 25755527/32
Kebabji
Grilled Meat Tikka Cost: KD2.390
Pieces of meat: 12
Weight of meat: 66grams
Tabbouleh Cost: 950fils
Weight of tabbouleh: 295grams
Telephone: 1861616
I took the liberty to plug the figures above into a table for easier comparison. I highlighted the best prices and weight in green while I used red for the worst prices and weight. As you can see Villa Fayrouz Express surprisingly came out to be the best deal. I said surprisingly since between the three it’s actually the least fast foodish. Kebabji on the other hand didn’t fare too well. They had the most expensive prices and the least quantity.

Thank you, Little Diamond, for spreading the news. This should be an amazing program.

From the Al Jazeera site:
On August 2, 1990, the Iraqi army invaded the emirate of Kuwait, which Saddam Hussein, the then Iraqi president, had declared Iraq’s 19th province.
The occupation of Kuwait may have only lasted seven months, yet the memory of it remains strong, not least in the minds of the children of that conflict.
At the end of the school year of 1990, students in an international school in Kuwait said their final farewells as they headed off for the summer holidays. Many of them would never meet again.
Al Jazeera’s Nashwa Nasreldin was one of those whose family was forced to relocate following the invasion.
Twenty years on, she returns to Kuwait, the country of her birth, along with a group of her classmates as they organise a reunion to find out what happened to their friends – and their school – during the war that separated them.
Kuwait: The class of 1990 can be seen from Monday, August 2, 2010 at the following times GMT: Monday: 1900; Tuesday: 0600; Wednesday: 0300; Thursday: 1400; Friday: 0600; Saturday: 1900; Sunday: 0300.

Great news, Loyac are extending the performance on the musical Omar Al-Khayyam. As i mentioned in my previous post how good was the play now they are extending for two more days.
Saturday (today) same time and place 7 pm at ASK Hawali

The play is in Arabic so if your a fan of classical plays and Arabic culture it would be a sham to miss it, I’ve been there in the first performance and i loved it, it was quite excellent.

My well deserved/highly appreciated vacation is semi-over, ofcourse, loads of things to cover from here and there but I just need some time to catch my breath.
That being said, HED KANDI’s musical compilations were my best friends throughout the whole journey.
Lots of feel good vibes, great music, wonderful bass and un-cut/interwind tracks, PERFECTION.
You can grab a listen to it over HERE.
Many people dont know it, like me, but dance/house music may be their favorite genre. I found that out back in 04/05 – better late than never.
p.s: BIG THANK YOU TO THE HED KANDI team for the warm warm hospitality and over the top experience, you guys rock ! *Subscribed my credit card to ALL your future releases* yes, im SOLD/Yours/Committed, HAH!
Everything was, how should I put it ?, yup, just like you say it – SOULFUL.

I passed by the Kuwait’s got talent exhibition tonight at Villa Moda and there were 2 things that I fell in love with. When i first came in, there was a little cute pink corner for “Nat Bakes” with boxes of cupcakes and cookies which of course was the first thing that caught my eye since I’m a huge fan of cupcakes and because my name is Nat. I grabbed a couple a tiny cupcake samplers, a red velvet recommended by a friend and the chocolate coconut cupcake. Both were delicious and surprisingly way better than the cupcakes I tried at Magnolia’s Bakery when I was in New York. I wanted to try all the different flavors but managed to stop myself. As I was moving on I saw the cutest cookie monster cupcakes ever with an actual real cookie in its mouth. The cupcake prices were very decent as well ranging from KD6 to KD8 per dozen depending on the kind of cupcakes. They currently just deliver and you can visit their website www.natbakeswithlove.com for more information.
The second thing that caught my eye was a little corner for local designer Ascia AL Faraj and her local concept Twenty Ten. She had these amazing scarves on display which I just fell in love with. The colors she had on display were vibrant and summery. I didn’t get anything tonight, but I’m going back tomorrow to pick up a couple. Twenty Ten doesn’t have a website yet but they do have a Facebook group which you can check by clicking [Here]. The scarves are also available in my secret closet boutique in Karizma, Sharq. You can email twenty.ten.q8@gmail.com for more info.
There were ten booths in total but only these two caught my interest since the rest were not my style. The exhibition ends on August 1st, check Mark’s previous post for details.

I rarely miss a water aerobics class. The Y makes it easy, even if I oversleep, there is also a 0930 class, or if I’m feeling bad, there are also classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Since I’m going to have to make it up anyway, I just go. I rarely feel bad enough to stay home, and most things I can schedule for after my class.
Any kind of aerobics class is funny. I try to be friendly to everyone, because these classes can be a real pain in the patootie if there are cliques or snobs, it starts to feel like junior high all over again, and God knows, that was bad enough the first time. Life is too short.
But there is one spot I really like. I like to be in the back of the class, so I can exercise harder or differently and not confuse anyone else. I’ve been doing water aerobics for a while and sometimes while the rest of the class is doing cross-country, for example, I will do it off the floor of the pool, or do an extra kick on the jacks, things like that, so it just works better for me to be at the back of the class. I also like to be at a certain depth, not too deep and not too shallow. So . . . regrettably . . . I am one of those people who have a spot.
Sometimes if I am a little late someone else stands in “my” spot and I have to stand somewhere else. I don’t worry about it, people in these classes come and go, and I usually get to stand there. If I don’t, I am still OK.
There are two other women on the back wall with me, who are pretty much always in their same places, and we really do have a good time. I joke that we are the barnacles, stuck to the back wall. This morning, I complimented one of them on her earrings, and she said they were amethysts for February, and as it turns out, we all have birthdays within one week of one another in February – all three of us, within one week. What an amazing coincidence.
She worked us hard this morning, and it is a good thing, as I fly this afternoon for Seattle. Keep me in your prayers for safe travels, and travel mercies, please!

I adore the fact that the game is a humorous homage to early dungeon crawlers: In the same manner as Demon’s Souls, it penalizes you if you die. At the same time it does not go as far and seems to only re-spawn you at the entrance of the dungeon, with your progress saved. I [...]

Hotels are a great place to saty in when travelling. Some people like to rent appartments or crash at a friend’s place which is fine, but nothing beats having breakfast buffet, room service, and many other facilities. Although this is way over my budget (just looking at those prices is like punches to the stomach with a kick in the……you know what I mean guys!
). The only thing I can do is admire the pictures and hear the stories of those who have experienced the luxury of these hotels, I shall list them anyway. By the way, they are in no ranking order, but I decided to list them alphabetically. Here goes: (Source: Yahoo! Uk & Ireland Travel)
1. The Atlantis, Bahamas
The pic is of the Bridge Suite, overlooks the marina. Ten rooms at your disposal, including two bedrooms, a living room and dining room. You’ll also have your own private kitchen, which comes with its own chef, butler and other staff. Also, there’s an entertainment centre with bar and piano. And of course, walk-in closets that are bigger than many one-bedroom apartments. Cost: £14,500 per night.

2. Burj Al Arab, Dubai
With its distinctive “billowing sail” design, its position on its own man-made island and reputation for being just a smidgeon shorter than the Empire State Building (1,053 feet high), the Burj Al Arab certainly looks the part. And with its glittery gold, Versace-designed decor and underwater restaurant that is reached by submarine, it certainly has the wow factor. Book one of the Royal Suites and you’ll be whisked to the hotel by Rolls-Royce from the airport, where you’ll enjoy your own private cinema, rotating bed and whirlpool bath with Hermes bath products. Plus your own butler to tend to your every need. Cost: £11,800 per night.

3. Four Seasons, New York

Aaah, the Big Apple, very rarely do I see it portrayed as posh, but this takes the cake. Book the Ty Warner Penthouse, with boasting floor-to-ceiling windows offering a 360-degree view of Manhattan. The suite comes with its own indoor-outdoor Zen garden, infinity-edge bathtub and private spa. The suite includes the services of a personal trainer/therapist to help you work off those calories. Not to mention your own personal butler, and private chauffeur to ensure you get to wherever you need to go in your choice of Rolls-Royce or Mercedes Maybach. Cost: £23k per night.
4. Ritz-Carlton, Moscow
Furnished with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Kremlin, Red Square and St Basil’s Cathedral, you’d be hard pressed to find a more amazing view. Add on the marble baths, living room with grand piano and beautiful Russian imperial furnishings and you’ll certainly feel immersed in luxury – plus you’ll enjoy up to five meals a day. Cost: £10,500 per night.

5. The Westin Excelsior, Rome

The Villa La Cupola suite, located on the fifth and sixth floors of the Westin Excelsior hotel, overlooks the Via Veneto and gets its name from the 12m-high, hand-frescoed cupola (domed roof) it is situated beneath. Further Roman touches can be found in the Pompeiian style Jacuzzi, complete with mosaic floors and frescoed walls. The suite also offers a private cinema, fitness room, sauna and steam bath, plus of course the 24-hour butler service and private limo airport transfers. What’s more, you’ll also have access to the suite’s private wine cabinet, with over 150 wines to choose from (personally wine ain’t my cup-o-tea, so I’ll skip that!). Cost: £20,400 per night.
So fellas, how do you feel after that swift kick?! OUCH!!)

Personal growth isn’t as easy as some writers make it out to be.
But it’s not always the climb that wears us out, as much as it is the baggage we carry with us and the route we take to reach our destination.
And while personal growth may not be easy, there’s an easier way to how we are currently approaching it.
This is the message behind my manifesto: The 3 R’s of Personal Growth.
The manifesto is under development, and I’ve submitted it to ChangeThis as a proposal.
By voting for the proposal on the ChangeThis website, you will have a hand in helping me get the manifesto designed, and distributed to a much wider audience.
What’s ChangeThis?
ChangeThis is an initiative to help spread great ideas, and was inspired by Seth Godin.
Each month, ChangeThis presents a list of proposals they’ve received, and get the public to vote on the proposals they want to read.
The proposals with the highest votes will be designed and distributed by the ChangeThis team as a “living, breathing manifesto.”
For a longer description of what ChangeThis does, check out their FAQ page.
What’s the 3 R’s of Personal Growth Manifesto About?
The aim of the manifesto is to establish a foundation that helps readers make the most of the personal growth literature available to them, and offers guidelines for writers on how to make their content more useful to their readers.
Below is the description that accompanies my proposal:
Do you feel overwhelmed by all the information “out there”? Do you find the advice you’re coming across confusing? Are you feeling frustrated for not getting the results you want, after all the time, effort and money you’re putting into your own personal growth?
If so, then this manifesto could be what you’re looking for.
The abundance of personal growth information and resources has turned from a blessing into a curse. We are feeling more scattered than ever before. Trying to put everything into practice has led to a bottleneck situation where we can’t seem to get anything done without worrying about everything else at the same time.
This manifesto introduces the basics of personal growth we need to bear in mind to get the most out of what we read.
It’s a guide for readers on how best to approach personal growth literature and a call to writers to offer advice that contributes to the signal, and not add to the noise.
If the message behind the manifesto resonates with you, and you’d like to read the manifesto and help it spread, please vote for it using the following link:
Vote for the 3 R’s of Personal Growth Manifesto
I appreciate your support, and would love to hear from you in the comments section once you vote for the proposal!
And please spread the word to friends, family, readers, and strangers on the subway, or walking down the street. I’m sure they’d love to make a positive contribution to the world!

My friend Alia wanted to have a brunch at her house, and she was out of time and ideas so I suggested she get stuff such as muffins, bread loafs, sandwiches…etc from Baking Tray. I did not specify anything except for the cookies. She went ahead and did the order – Next day she tells me about Baking Tray Date Muffin! I have never tried this muffin, but kept day dreaming about it in the office all morning till I decided I have to give it a shot… and I did
– THANK YOU ALIA!! I am now going almost daily just to get this muffin!! LOL – I blame you and thank you at the same time

Let me tell you something about me.. I am more of a cookie person than I am for muffins & cakes, I actually am a SUCKER FOR COOKIES that I have been nicknamed “Cookie Monster” since a very young age hehehe. This muffin is another story now!! Another thing about me is that I have always hated dates and anything with dates. My dad tried so hard throughput the years to make me love it but only manged to few years ago! Why did I hated dates without even trying them? They are SO GOOD!!! So good that I feel sorry I hated’em all those years… now back to the subject – Baking Tray Date Muffins….
They are fabulous! Golden brown in color, topped with some actual date shred, and with date rich content. I usually eat muffin tops but I eat this whole sucker! It became my daily snack at work! Hell yeah, I packed some for home because I kept talking about it and my sister wanted to try some – she also -not a cake person- fell in love with’em!

Still soft and yummy the next morning!

They are dangerously addictive!!
Baking Tray is located in Burj Mishaal in Sharq and their tel # is 22251544 (Map)

Not surprised this happened. This is the image that is conveyed about us: spoiled, corrupt, and apathetic.
(Article source: Sky News)

A Koenigsegg CCXR worth £1.2m and a Lamborghini Murcielago worth £350,000 – both in the fetching colour of turquoise – were parked outside the royal family’s latest acquisition when they were spotted by traffic wardens.
The cars were initially given tickets and then clamped, to the amazement of passers-by who gathered to watch.
The custom-made cars are part of the royal family’s fleet of supercars. The turquoise is recogniseable as the family’s distinctive “baby blue” colour.
The Qatari royal family are behind the Qatar Holding Group which bought Harrods from Mohamed Al-Fayed in April for £1.5bn.
The business is led by the Qatari Prime Minister, Sheikh Hamad Al-Thani.
The Al-Thani family are worth around £2.5bn and have stakes in dozens of businesses around the world.
As well as their magnificent car collection, their assets include a fleet of multi-million pound yachts and luxury homes around the world.

I admire embroidery! No matter hos simple or complex it is I really appreciate the working hours people have put up into any embroidered piece. Its been very long since I wore such work on a semi-casual blouse, for a while I kept my focus on colors & fabrics rather than work done on fabrics, printing is as far as I went. What made me take this piece is that they mixed some small chains and tiny
